What to Expect in a Power Hour: Clarity, Confidence & Better Google Ads

If you're running your own Google Ads and feeling unsure about how it’s all going, you're not alone. Many small businesses come to me after trying to manage things on their own, often with good intentions, a few YouTube videos, and maybe a couple of phone calls with Google reps.

And to be clear, I’m not here to bash the Google rep team. They're trying to help. But it’s not always what people expect. They’re often working through long call lists with very limited time to dig deep into individual accounts. The advice can feel a bit generic, even when they say it’s tailored to your goals.

I hear from people who come off those calls confused, unsure what’s just been changed, and feeling a bit pressured to “just click the button.” Things get switched on or off without full explanations, and clients are left not really knowing if it was the right decision. That’s where the Power Hour is different.

This is a session where we slow things down, look at your actual setup, and help you understand what’s going on - and how to get better results.

So, What Actually Happens in a Power Hour?

Before we even meet, I ask you to share your Google Ads account with me (read-only access is absolutely fine), and if you’re using it, your Google Analytics (GA4) too. That way, I can do a mini pre-audit and make sure we spend our hour on the things that really matter to you, not just the basics.

The session itself is typically delivered over a Teams call. Either you share your screen, or I share mine with your account visible - whatever’s easiest for you. The whole session is recorded, and you’ll receive a copy afterwards, so you don’t have to scribble notes or remember everything on the spot.

At the start of the call, we get clear on your goals. What do you want to walk away knowing? What are you hoping to fix, improve or understand better? From there, the session is completely flexible. Some clients want to deep-dive into campaign structure. Others want to tidy up their tracking. Some just want reassurance that they’re on the right track.

At the end, we recap everything we’ve covered, and if there’s anything for you to action afterwards, we outline that too - but no pressure. You’ve got the recording, and you can come back to it any time.

A Real Example: When “Help” from Google Made Things Worse

One client, an online learning provider, had a free session with a Google rep. In theory, this should have been helpful. But changes were made that weren’t fully explained, and they didn’t have time to check in with the account afterwards.

Here’s what we uncovered in their Power Hour:

  • Auto-apply recommendations had been switched on - without them realising it - and more than 1,000 keywords had been automatically added to one ad group (best practice is closer to 20, to keep things relevant)
  • Bidding strategy had been changed to “Maximise Conversions” - but conversion tracking wasn’t set up correctly( visits to the company's location were set to the primary conversion action, which is not very valuable to the business), so the campaigns stalled

Together we:

  • Turned off the unnecessary automation
  • Fixed their conversion tracking
  • Switched the bid strategy to “Maximise Clicks” while the system collected clean data
  • Eventually transitioned back to smarter bidding once the account was in better shape

The changes were simple, but they made a huge difference to performance and budget control. We also had plenty of time to work through an understanding of the changes and what they meant for the business. Plus, because it was recorded, the business owner was able to rewatch it.

The Hidden Costs of Junk Traffic

Another thing that often comes up in Power Hours is irrelevant traffic. Most people don’t realise how much of their budget is being spent on clicks that aren’t actually valuable to them.

We’ll take a proper look at your Search Terms Report, and I’ll help you identify:

  • Which keywords are bringing in quality traffic
  • Which searches are irrelevant or wasteful
  • How to clean things up using negative keywords

This alone can save you a significant chunk of your budget, especially if you’ve been relying on broad match or haven’t reviewed search terms in a while.

Who Books a Power Hour?

This session is ideal if you:

  • Run your own Google Ads and want help understanding or improving your setup
  • Can’t commit to full campaign management but still want expert input
  • Feel like you’re guessing your way through your ad settings
  • Want an honest, clear explanation of what’s happening in your account
  • Have been told things by a rep or a past agency and aren’t sure if they were the right moves

Whether you're completely new to Google Ads or have some experience under your belt, the Power Hour gives you space to ask questions, get clarity, and move forward with confidence.

What This Session Isn’t

Let’s be clear:

  • This is not a sales pitch. You’re getting actual, hands-on advice.
  • This is not a lecture. We work with your account, not in theory.
  • This is not a one-size-fits-all script. It’s tailored to your business, your data, your goals.
