In an article released on 5th December 2019 Google announced that they have some exciting updates (currently in beta) where you will be able to get an explanation on performance changes.
This will save a huge amount of time sifting through detailed reports and data as the insight will be a case of hovering over and selecting a pop-up option. I have not got an account that has this beta feature in place yet but will add further info as and when it becomes available to me.
