How Your Business Can Benefit From a Blog

In this blog post I’m highlighting the major benefits that blogging can bring to your business, so if your contemplating starting a blog then keep reading for my top tips.

Is blogging still relevant?

Perhaps you’re wondering, is blogging still a relevant form of content marketing in 2022 given the rise in video, especially on social media? Well, yes, it is! It’s true, there are many more ways to communicate with your audience today than there were 10 years ago, but blogging is still popular. The key is to make sure it is done both consistently and well.

Companies with blogs produce an average of 67% more leads monthly than companies that don't blog (DemandMetric).

What are benefits to my business?

Boost traffic to your website – Understanding your audience and writing content people want to read will bring potential customers to your site. And creating new content on your website regularly is also good for SEO. We know that Google loves regularly updated website pages, so adding new blogs can provide you with more opportunities to rank higher in SERPs (search engine results page), hopefully bringing more people to your site through organic search.

Show your expertise, build credibility and trust – if you provide a service, it can be harder to build credibility and trust as you are providing an intangible product. Blogging is a great way to demonstrate your expertise and experience in what you do and develop trust from your audience.

Allows you to differentiate yourself from the competition – customers won’t purchase from the first website they visit. They will usually visit a few before they make a decision.  If a potential customer finds informative content on your site that they engage with, this could potentially influence their purchase decision in your favour.

Continues to have value – (most)blog content is classed as evergreen content in that it remains relevant and will continue to attract traffic over time. In fact, Hubspot states that when they analysed a months’ worth of blog stats, they found that over 75% of post views were of old posts.

Build brand awareness – blog content is easily shared by others. People won’t necessarily share your social media posts about sales, or promotions but they will share blog content if it’s informative and useful. This builds brand awareness and can send new inbound links to your website.

Repurpose blog content – if you are writing 600+ word blog posts, then there’s a lot of content that be used again in different formats. You can use quotes and stats to create social media posts, content can be used for Instagram carousel posts, or you could use sections of your blog to create short Reels videos for Instagram. And don’t forget that you can convert your blogs into snappy impactful infographics. You could even combine a few blogs of similar topics into a lead magnet. More information can be found here on lead magnets.

Tips for starting a blog

  1. Writing about your potential customers’ pain points and providing solutions will ensure you have engaged readers.
  2. Be consistent with publishing content – great for your readers and great for SEO.
  3. Long form content of 1000 words or more does better over time
  4. Have a blog promotion checklist in place that provides a plan of how you promote each post.
  5. Create a strategy. Know what you are going to write and block out time to do so.
  6. Add internal links to other blogs and pages on your website.
  7. Always add a call to action at the end.
  8. Monitor your blog post stats – you may be surprised which blog posts are consistently ranking highest.

There’s no doubt that blogging is an effective form of content marketing because it has the potential to increase organic website traffic, bring in potential new leads, raise brand awareness and builds credibility and trust with your audience. However, it’s really important that you focus on writing content that will resonate with your audience and is published consistently.
